Chinese Lantern

My first photo taken with the new camera.
This was in my friend's garden.
It's a chinese lantern.
Isn't it cute?

Nikon D3100 versus Nikon Coolpix S8000

OK, so this post is not going to be one photo but many.

Today I took my fancy new camera, which I do love the look and feel of, out for it's first run.
We went to my favourite snapping spot...the duck pond.
I also took my trusty old point & shoot...and I'm so glad I did or I would have completely missed the gorgeous egret because I could not have got anywhere near as close (zoom-wise) with the new camera.

I took these with my old Nikon S8000...

I've never seen baby ibises before...so cute!

The babies are growing up way too fast!

I took these with the new Nikon D3100...

This is as close as I could get.

And then in the afternoon I visited a friend who bought the same camera last week (we are camera twins!)
She has gorgeous flowers in her garden so we both did some happy snapping in her garden.

The old camera...

And then the battery died....dammit!

And the new camera...

And that's it.
A lot of photos in one day with two cameras.
What do you think?
All opinions and suggestions are most welcome.

Looking Up

Yesterday my new camera arrived.
I always laughed at people with big fancy cameras, and said I didn't need one like that.
Then we went and bought one.
And I was bitterly disappointed to learn it doesn't take macro with the standard lens.
I knew I wouldn't be able to zoom as much as I can with my point & shoot.
But I did think I would still be able to take extreme close ups.
Seems I can't, or haven't found how to yet, without buying a new lens.
Something we hadn't planned to do for awhile.
So, as 90% of the photos I take are macro or zoom, it's not what I need.
I'm sure it will take fabulous photos of other things, I just don't do that much 'other things' photography.

Anyway...I'll get over it.
I'll learn what my new Nikon D3100 can do.
And I'm sure I'll love it...eventually.

But until then I'll continue with my little Nikon Coolpix S8000, which I love!
So here's another one from my trusy old little camera at Noosaville again...

This was my view of the gorgeous day in the sun, looking up from under the shade of a big old fig tree.

Seagull

We had the most lovely day at Noosaville yesterday.
It wasn't quite the beach.
It was the Noosa River.
But the kids could play in the sand and the water.
We could sit in the shade.
It was a glorious day.
And on the hour drive down I said to my husband,
"What I really want is to capture a bird in flight.
I'm dying to photograph a bird in flight!"

So I squealed when I caught this.
My husband looked at me questioningly.
I showed him the camera. He thought it was blurred.
I couldn't tell, I didn't have me glasses with me.
And it is...
But I'm still pretty excited about it.

However, I am still on the hunt for the elusive perfect picture of a bird in flight!

Pink

I've been having a pink patch on my other blog...
Two pink posts this week...
Here and Here

So I've picked a pretty little pink flower for today's photo.
This, I've discovered after some Google searching, is an Indian Hawthorn flower.
We have a row of these little bushes in our front garden and the flowers are very small...
But they are delightful, don't you think?
I can't stop photographing them.

Bearded Dragon

I have to watch where I step in the backyard.
We have a resident that can be a bit hard to spot!

Another Bromeliad

This is very similar to the Matchsticks Bromeliad that I snapped a little while ago.
Aren't these flower spikes amazing?
They don't even look real!

Ball of Fire

Yesterday, as the sun descended into the smoke haze on the horizon, it looked like a huge orange ball of fire. Which of course it is.

Mulberries

The tree is actually in the neighbours yard, but half of it hangs over our fence, so we have these little delights to enjoy every spring.
Miss 4 saw this photo and said, "A rainbow!"
It does look a bit like a rainbow of mulberries, doesn't it?
And by the way, they are delicious!!

A Jet Truck - at The Show

Well, look at that. I'm up to my 100th post already!

This photo is of one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
It was THE coolest thing my 7 year old boy had ever seen, no question.
You should have seen his eyes light up when he realized it was a jet engine from a real plane on the back of a truck!!
He is into planes and jet engines.
The noise, the fumes and the warmth from that huge flame were something that had to be seen and felt to be believed.
It was mad...literally...the driver was Mad Ron!

You Beaut Utes - at The Show

I love the light in this photo. The sun had just set.

What's a country show without...
The Beaut Ute Parade...
