Clotheslines are prohibited in our community (and most of NYC) as a blight on the landscape.
Actually, clotheslines themselves are not very common in much of the US. There was one when my son bought his current house in New Jersey - but they have never used it. The former owners said it hadn't been used in many years even before they bought the house.
When I was very young, my grandparents had a summer house in the mountains. We had no washer or dryer there (it was VERY isolated!) so I do remember a clothesline from the back porch to a tree in the woods on a pulley. I found clothespins very interesting! LOL!
One word ... dryers! (That, and we are not allowed to have clotheslines here.)
ReplyDeleteIt all ended up in the dryer! And WHAT?? You're not allowed clotheslines? I don't understand....
