Black Flower

Have you ever seen a black flower?
Neither had I until I spotted some of these growing in our local park.
A black pansy...can you believe it??
I have done nothing to enhance this photo, I've simply cropped it.

  1. Love the pic & love Pansies you know the word comes from the French word "pensee" meaning "thought".

It was also named as the Pansy resembles a human face & in Autumn it nods forward as if in deep thought.

While the picture you took is not officially of a Black Pansy a lot of people mistake it for one.

That one is really called Purple Blotch as it's the darkest in the Purple/Mauve range.

  3. Theres no such thing as black flowers...close of course but not actually black. Ive got a 'black' Geranium which is very dark blue/purple like this one. From a distance it sure looks black though. Aside from that it's a great picture of a very pretty flower.

  4. Oh how gorgeous Thea, that is truly beautiful. I think I've seen these before, though maybe not quite so black, more a deep rich purple colour. Kind of fitted in well with all the 'halloween' posts I've seen today ;o) xo
