Old Boot

Yesterday I got a new lens for my Nikon D3100!
It's a Tamron AF 70-300mm tele-macro.
Spoilt? Me?? YES!!
It feels huge and of course I've been out playing with it already.
I went for a walk yesterday afternoon to take photos of flowers in the trees and neighbours' gardens.
But I couldn't resist snapping this...

This boot has been stuck on this tree in a garden in our street for years!

Questions for avid shutterbugs with more than one lens -

How often do you change your lens?
It is difficult?
How do you juggle them?

  1. Quite a novelty! The boot is weathering well.

How exciting to have a new lens. Hope it is even better than you had hoped for Thea.

  2. Thea, I've got the kit lens, a Tamron Macro (like yours!) and a prime lens that I use for portraiture. I usually swap before I go anywhere and specifically look to shoot with the lens I have. The macro generally only comes out at home as it's used the least.

  3. Lovely!! Makes me want to take up photography, too! :D (and maybe stick a boot to one of my trees ;) )

  4. You end up carrying all the lenses around for years just so the one time you need the right one it's there with you...but you end up giving up and just carrying your favorite...then of course you dont have the right lens on the one day you really need it. I gave up altogether and bought one of the new super zoom cameras from Canon (35X)

  5. Interesting one Thea. Not the usual pretty shot you take, but a great shot nonetheless :o) xo

  6. I love this shot - kinda quirky. :-)

I generally carry three lenses with me ... when I am in Disney World I try to decide which three I would need depending on what I might want to take photos of. The reason for 3? That's how many I can carry in my camera bag.

How often do I change my lens? As often as I need to. In the course of a day I can make 3 or 4 changes ... or none. After many years of changing lenses, I can usually do it quickly. I try to anticipate which lens I will need and make the change beforehand, but often I need to make it on the fly.

Enjoy the new lens. They're fun to play with.
