There's something special about the moon in the day time.
Don't you think?

Hibiscus
I love these plants because they flower all year round.
Even when all other flowers have withered and died for winter, these blooms keep on smiling.

Cygnets
I took the kids, their scooters and some stale old bread to the duck pond yesterday.
Our duck pond is fabulous, there is a walking track all the way around.
There are always so many different birds.
And there is always a family of ducks.
And a family of swans.
Yesterday we saw for the first time this season, the swans' babies, three cygnets.
They were absolutely adorable.
So cute and fluffy.
The kids and I wanted to pick them up for a cuddle, but if you've ever seen a protective mummy and daddy swan, you would know that is not a good idea!

Bauhinia
You know Spring is just around the corner when these begin to bloom.
They are everywhere right now.
Our back lane is lined with bauhinia trees and we have three in our front garden.
The dead and dying leaves that are still on the tree are so ugly.
But the flowers are so beautiful.

Butterfly
It's not the most colourful butterfly, but it's still pretty.
And thanks to Mr Google, who knows everything, I've discovered it is a Common Crow Butterfly.

Bottle Brush Flower
It's bottle brush season.
This is from our boy's tree and it is about to be covered in them.
When I see these, I almost like red.

Driving
I love country roads lined with gum trees.
I took this as we were driving home from our picnic on the weekend.
Does it feel like the trees are rushing towards you??

I snapped this lovely little beetle on our picnic on Saturday.

Picnic
Yesterday we went on a family picnic to our favourite picnic spot.
It's only 30mins from home and yet we feel like we're on top of the world.
The views of the mountains and ocean are spectacular, and no one knows about it so we had it all to ourselves for two whole hours yesterday.
I'll tell you where it is, if you promise not to go! ;)
It's near Cooran, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
This was my view from the picnic blanket.

Rome
Last night Hubba and I were reminiscing over our honeymoon in Europe.
We both loved Rome, especially the ruins and ancient buildings on Palatine Hill.
Hubba took most of the best photos from that holiday.
This was the best one I took, I think.
It was a long time ago, 2003, and pre-digital camera.

Coriander Flowers
We like to grow herbs...basil and coriander are my favouites.
And I know that once they go to seed...they're pretty much useless for cooking purposes.
But this.....this teeny tiny coriander flower...
I could never have imagined how glorious it would be so close up.
To me...the delicate simplicity of this flower is divine.

Dolphins
This photo is almost two years old, but I love it.
In September 2009 we were very fortunate to get up close and personal with the dolphins at Sea World.
The head dolphin trainer happened to live next door to my parents.
Yep, he lived way out in the country, travelled over an hour to work every day.
He had horses and used to get hay from Mum & Dad.
He very kindly offered free tickets for the whole family, that's six adults and eight children, into Sea World.
But not only that, he told us to stay after the dolphin show for a private feeding and patting of them.
I've loved dolphins for a very long time, so this was an amazing day for me.
They're just so beautiful.
And if you haven't felt one before, they feel like a shiny new, wet rubber boot.

Bird Family - Noisy Miners
Today's photo comes with a story.
During the week, my mother-in-law heard a splash in her pool then looked out to find a little bird hovering over the water. The baby bird had fallen in and gone under. The mother was trying valliantly to pull the baby out but she wasn't strong enough. The daddy bird was looking on, very concerned, from the pool fence. My mother-in-law quickly grabbed the net and saved the little bird. The next morning the three birds were waiting for her at her back fence and garbled as if to say, "Thank you."
Yesterday, these three were sitting in the tree at the corner of the back yard. I'm pretty sure it's them.

Black Swan
I don't mix it up much here, do I?
All you get is flowers, birds and sunsets.
Oh well, here's another bird.

Grevillea
My favourite native flower is the grevillea.
The trees look pretty ordinary, but the flowers are beautiful.

Australian Darter
I am learning so much with this new blog.
It's not good enough for me to just publish the photo, I have to know what it is so I can tell you.
And I didn't know the names of many flowers or birds before, but now, thanks to Google, I'm learning a new one almost every day!
During the week, at the duck pond, I saw this!
A bird, sitting at the edge of the pond with it's wings spread wide.
I'd never seen one of these before so I was intrigued to find out what it was.
I thought it might have been a cormorant but it seems it's an Australian Darter, or Australasian Darter and they sit with their wings open to dry them.

Heart Crystal
Years ago I was given a crystal heart shaped sun catcher.
It now hangs in my daughter's room and on a winter's afternoon it catches the light and sends little 'rainbows' all over her wall.

Matchstick Bromeliad
This little piece of nature is so totally crazy it makes me giggle.
My favourite colour is pink...not shocked?
But my favourite colour combination is pink and blue.
So when I saw this in the neighbours garden I giggled with delight.
It couldn't be more perfect!

The Sun
I know...another sunset photo!
But what I particularly love about this one is the bird as well.
Two of my favourite things to photograph in one photo...if only there was a flower in there as well! ;)
Please enjoy yesterday's sunset...

OK, so I think I need to add birds to the list of things I love to photograph!

Birds in Flight
Yesterday Miss 3 and I went to the duck pond, again.
I took my camera, again.
I've taken so many photos at the duck pond I didn't know if I would get anything 'new'.
But boy was I wrong.
I took so many that I love I had to write a whole post about it over at my other place, Do I Really Wanna Blog.
Click here to see A Day At the Duck Pond.
It was the flock of wild little corellas that made it special.
It was hard to know what I was getting because of the glare on the camera screen and the birds were moving so fast. I just kept snapping but the camera could hardly keep up, it was too slow.
But I was very happy when I saw them on the computer,
and I gasped when I saw this one.
I still can't believe I took this!

Dusk
The thing I love most about where we live is the view of our little town, especially at dusk.
This was two nights ago, so pretty.
