Australian Darter

I am learning so much with this new blog.
It's not good enough for me to just publish the photo, I have to know what it is so I can tell you.
And I didn't know the names of many flowers or birds before, but now, thanks to Google, I'm learning a new one almost every day!

During the week, at the duck pond, I saw this!
A bird, sitting at the edge of the pond with it's wings spread wide.
I'd never seen one of these before so I was intrigued to find out what it was.
I thought it might have been a cormorant but it seems it's an Australian Darter, or Australasian Darter and they sit with their wings open to dry them.

  1. Love the picture and love the information.

  2. exquisite! and love the information. we have planted native plants in our back garden and love checking out the species of birds that visit … the little wattle bird our favourite! xt
